He stressed that the region should treat coastal access as a shared resource, comparing East African nations to apartments in a block where all residents share the compound. In response, Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs downplayed the tension, affirming that Kenya already supports landlocked states through international conventions and continues to provide port access for Ugandan cargo. However, Kenya has not indicated any willingness to consider shared sovereignty or direct territorial access to the coastline.
